Our Philosophy

  • True and proper education starts with the knowledge of God....God is the author of all knowledge.

  • Provide a knowledge base that empowers or gives our students a deeper knowledge of self, God, the enemy of God, others than self and the time and what must be done.

  • Teach our children the hightest form of civilization

  • Teach mathematics, science, history, language from the perspective of the teaching of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad and the wisdom of Allah (God).

  • Provide an education that unites black people

  • Provide an education that raises the moral, politcal and spriritual consciousness of the students

  • Provide an education derived from the truth of God to free the student to be what Allah (God) created them to be

  • Produce a well-educated, cultured and courteous people

  • To prepare our children for the hereafter, a whole new world of peace (Kingdom of Allah (God)).

  • Provide an education which will make our people produce jobs for self and will make our people willing and able to go and do for self.

  • To instill within our people the desire to learn and then use that learning for self. We must be obsessed with getting the type of education we may use toward the elevation and benefit of our people.

  • To provide education and knowledge that is a force or energy that makes it’s bearer accomplish or overcome obstacles, barriers and resistance.

  • Provide an education that will enable our children to build a nation, a whole new world of peace.

After the departure of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad in 1975 and the dismantling of the Nation Of Islam, the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan began the laborious task of re-building the Nation Of Islam in 1977 and re-established the University of Islam in 1989 on the foundation built by the Honorable Elijah Muhammad.

Muhammad University of Islam provides our children with the essential knowledge of God and of Self. Recognition of God is the proper beginning point for learning and understanding every discipline of Life.

True education provides the proper cultivation of one's gifts, talents, mind, body and spirit by bringing us closer to fulfilling our purpose for being, which is to reflect Allah (God). One of the things that separate man from beast is knowledge. Knowledge feeds the development of the human being so that the person can grow and evolve into Divine and become one with the Creator.

Our children are taught self-mastery. Mastery of self is the key to mastery of all disciplines because in some way every discipline is present within ourselves. They are taught to relate the forces within self to the forces that lie outside the self. This connects the student to the subjects that they are studying in a manner that enables them to ultimately master that subject matter.

Muhammad University of Islam is proud of its students and graduates who have gone on in life to be successful. We are committed to providing a quality education; one that connects the student to God and makes him or her enjoy self-mastery, self-discipline and one that gives the student a healthy self-concept. At Muhammad University, our children are taught civility, culture, refinement, respect for others, good manners and good morals.

Muhammad University of Islam is committed to providing a superior system of education that will prepare our children to meet the challenges of an ever-changing world going into the 21st century. The Honorable Elijah Muhammad said that,

"My University is a new school; My University is a new world."

"True and proper education starts with the knowledge of God...God is the author of all knowledge..."

Our History

Muhammad University Of Islam was established in 1934 by the Honorable Elijah Muhammad in the city of Detroit, Michigan. The Muhammad Universities of Islam were born from the need to revive, reform and redeem black people who had suffered from the miseducation and hostility towards blacks in the public school system.

The Honorable Elijah Muhammad recognized the inherent weakness in the public school system and determined that - for black people to gain the tools needed to build a new reality for themselves - we needed to establish an independent school system, with a new and strong foundation based upon the Supreme Wisdom of Almighty God  (ALLAH).

The Honorable Elijah Muhammad established a vehicle that would enable us to control the education of our children and consequently the direction of our future. For many years, the teaching staff of Muhammad Universities were comprised of individuals who did not have college degrees. However, as believers in The Honorable Elijah Muhammad's vision, they had a sincere interest and determination to educate our children. Gradually, the school began to attract college graduates and experienced teachers until the entire faculty was degree-bearing.
